New State Legislation on Bamboo

Bamboo

BambooAt our Zone II Horticulture Committee meeting we were asked to make all GCA members aware of this new legislation:

New CT legislation effective October 1, 2013
Public Act No. 13-82. “An act regulating the planting and sale of running bamboo.”

After October 1, 2013, no bamboo can grow beyond the boundaries of your property. No person shall plant bamboo at a location that is 100 feet or less from the abutting property or public right of way, unless contained by a properly constructed and maintained barrier system.

If you have it in your yard prior to October 1, you are grandfathered in. This does not protect you from a civil lawsuit, if the bamboo takes over your neighbor’s yard.
