NCGC Updates the Colonial Herb Garden at New Canaan Museum & Historical Society

NCGC began tending the Colonial Herb Garden in 1981.  Over the years the garden has undergone several renovations and improvements including a redesign in 2011-2012, planting of new herbs in 2014-2015 and the installation of brick pathways in 2018.

Beginning in 2024, with funding from the 2023 Gardens in Bloom garden tour, a new fence has been installed, new herbs planted and plant labels added.

Future improvements include extending a brick walkway to connect the garden to the rest of the museum campus and installation of an educational sign which will enrich the visitor experience.

The garden is designed as an educational space where visitors can learn the important roles herbs and plants played in the daily life of the colonial settlers.  The garden will once again welcome school students this fall.
