Conservation Corner: Irwin Park Meadows

Last month’s Conservation Corner presented the meadows at Irwin Park and how they offer a unique habitat in our wooded suburban town.  The meadows at Irwin are full of perennial and annual wildflowers, vines, shrubs and mature trees which are home to bees, butterflies, birds, reptiles and mammals. Contribution to the New Canaan Land Trust

The New Canaan Garden Club is pleased to announce a financial contribution of $1000 to the New Canaan Land Trust for future stewardship of of the Silvermine Fowler Preserve. Following the purchase, The New Canaan Land Trust will begin additional work on the Fowler property to improve public access in an appropriate way and ensure that the property remain public open space in perpetuity.   According to Garden Club President Jane Gamber, “The Garden Club of America has a commitment to promoting respect for natural resources and responsibility for environmental stewardship. February 2011 Sweeps

The February sweeps were well subscribed and the results beautiful!  Thank you to all that entered in the Horticulture and Flower Arranging classes.  Go to the Activities tab across the top of this page, scroll down to Photo Gallery and click to see all the wonderful entries.  We hope for even more participation at our April meeting.  There will be Photography sweeps as well as Hort and Flower Arranging.  We look forward to a big turnout!
